About Us
"Thundapaw", the sound of my big boy padding down the hallway.
Hi I'm Sue and as most people did, I grew up with pets. There were two dogs (Staffordshire Bull Terriers) and always at least two cats, moggies naturally, for all of my childhood. In fact any cat looking for some love usually managed to follow me home.
I came from Wellington (New Zealand) to Melbourne (Australia) in 1987 on a work scholarship and witnessed a German Shepherd Dog Demonstration Team in action at the 1987 GSD National Show and Trial held in Dandenong that year. I was well and truly hooked! I went on to own and train my own GSDs and this led to breeding and establishing my own kennel prefix. I was joint owner of "Tellus" from 1987 to 1995, cumulating in breeding, owning and handling my own lovely "Allie" *Tellus Revenge A,Z to winning the Silver Medal and Reserve Challenge Bitch - 2nd Open Bitch at the 1999 GSD National Show and Trial held in Adelaide that year. The Open Bitch class that year had approximately 90 something entries! also that year I exhibited a beautiful young bitch, from the first litter of my new prefix "Kasron Absolutely Fab", who finished a very high 3rd in a large, strong puppy bitch class.
I furthered my canine interest by becoming a qualified show instructor with the German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria Inc. in 1994.
Throughout my years involvement with the club, I have always followed the breed improvement schemes, and encouraged my puppy owners to socialise their new addition (thus leading to a well adjusted, much loved and valued member of their family and wider community.)
I have gained the silver medal for "A" stamp hips (Tellus) and bronze medal (Kasron). My Kasron puppies also passing their "Z" stamp for elbows. I was only ever a small, hobby breeder (2-3 litters each year) but all of my breeding animals were always presented for and passed the GSDCA Inc. Breed Survey Scheme. Many of my Kasron prefix have been highly placed and won at GSD specialist shows throughout Australia and many have gained their obedience titles,
most notably "TS.CH.T.CH.Kasron Suzie Q CCD"
Always the most rewarding part has been the knowledge that the puppies I have bred are living their lives as happy, healthy, well loved family pets. I have met some great people and made some wonderful friends.
In June 2009 we relocated from Bannockburn, Vic to Bungendore, NSW (just outside Canberra). Yes, the dogs and cats came too.
I don't remember when I became aware of Maine Coon cats. Obviously many years ago flicking through a cat breed book in a shop and in the few cat books I own. I've always been in awe of them, they just fascinated me and I aspired to eventually own one myself.
One cold winters day in 2009 we went out for a drive over to the other side of Canberra to take a look at a Cat Show that was being held at The Burns Club. I was excited at the prospect of actually seeing some Maine Coons in real life. We arrived after judging had finished but it was a large show and as with all cat shows, the numerous exhibits were still on show to drool over. I enjoyed viewing many of the breeds that day but there was no denying how impressive the Maine Coons were. I went home happy
knowing they had also left a lasting impression on my hubby.
My son began primary school and it was at drop off one morning that I overheard some people talking about a Maine Coon breeder they knew of that had a slightly older kitten looking for a forever pet home.
That was early 2012. The people have since become good friends. The breeder turned out to be Fiona Cooper of the highly successful "Coolcoons" prefix, . . . and the kitten at the centre of he discussion has since stolen our hearts completely!
He has grown into our very handsome man "Pirate", the stunning red silver classic tabby lounging around with our son on our infomation page. When he joined our family he was 7 months old. He blended in easily with our very elderly moggy girl, our gorgeous rescue Ragdoll, and our 2 German Shepherd Dogs.
When I think back to all the time I spent over the years internet surfing Maine Coon breeders, I consider myself very fortunate indeed to not only have found our gorgeous man Pirate, but also to have now found a wonderful friend and mentor in Fiona Cooper. Not only is Fiona a highly respected all breeds judge, but she has bred, owned and imported many outstanding Maine Coons.
I am indeed fortunate to say that I am working in close planning with Fiona to continue to improve the breed here in Australia. In her I have a very patient mentor. Thankfully, both herself and Mary Jo have been willing to divulge some valuable grooming tips and they're happy to overlook the basic, funny mistakes I make in breed lingo whilst recognising the passion I have for these amazing cats.
All of my foundation queens are Coolcoons ladies and I am a registered breeder with Cats NSW Inc. (affiliated to ACF Inc)

"Pirate", our very beginning. I don't notice his eye, and a lovely workmate once commented "he looks like he's winking at you"
